Reasons for Broken Shingles

The roof is a very important part of your house since it keeps your family safe from any damage from rain and other elements. Having broken shingles on your roof can cause great damage to your house. It is always easy to notice shingles that have broken because they are visible. Most of the time, shingles can break due to high winds, walking on the roof, aging issues, hail damage, or poor installation. The following are the things you can do if you notice that your shingles have broken.

1. Poor Installation

Shingles can easily fall off the roof if they are not properly installed. You should contact a professional roofing company like Davis Roofing to redo the work. If you still have a warranty, you can take an advantage of that. In any case, if it expired, you can still call a professional to do the reinstallation.

2. Wind

The wind is the common cause of broken shingles. However, it is simple to fix a shingle that has fallen off due to wind. You can reach out to a professional roofer for a replacement.

Normalize giving your roof a visual inspection in case of a major weather event such as excess winds.

3. Hail Damage

A major hailstorm can cause damage to your roof and on most occasions the whole neighborhood. It can be easily noticed since you will see that other roofs are also broken. In this case, we recommend that you call a professional roofer or an insurance adjuster to assess the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired immediately, you can fund it by yourself and thereafter file for an insurance claim. Ensure you use a professional roofer to assess the damage.

4. Aged Shingles

Roofing materials are made to last for a long period of time but not forever. After many years, they may start to fall apart. This is a result of the oil in the asphalt drying out. If you notice them falling off the roof, you can check out when the shingles were installed. If it were some 10 to 15 years back then they are worn out and they need replacement. Avoid replacing only the ones that are worn out. You should plan for a full replacement to avoid high costs and more damage.

If you do not act upon the broken shingles, your roof can experience severe damage with time. We do not recommend that you do the repair by yourself. It is always safe to call a professional roofer to assess the cause of the damage and do the repair by themselves. Your roof needs to be in a good condition to protect you and your family from any harm.
