5 Roofing Myths Debunked

Homeowners are always looking for ways on how they can make their home a comfortable and a safe place to live in. One of the most important parts of a home is the roof. Your roof offers protection to you and your loved ones against the outside elements such as rain, heat and wind. If there is one thing that needs maintenance and regular check up, it is your roof. However, most homeowners have overlooked this and focus on other things, leaving their roof unchecked.

Worse, some of them have listened to incorrect advice and believe in roofing myths they have read over the internet or heard on some people. Unfortunately, these myths can do your roofing more harm than good. It can cause costly roofing repairs or can lower the value of your home! Here are some 5 roofing myths you should know:

5 common roofing myths

All roof shingles are created the same

Everybody loves purchasing items at cheap prices, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, there are homeowners who prefer to buy roof shingles at the cheapest price because they believe that roof shingles are all the same. If you have the same mindset, then you are mistaken. Some shingles are offered at a more expensive price most probably because they are also more durable and can stand all types of weather conditions.

If there’s no leak, there’s no problem

Just because you don’t see any water coming into your home from your roof doesn’t mean your roof is in perfect condition. There is no roof that can last a lifetime, especially if your home is located in an area with harsh weather conditions. Do not wait for a leak to occur. Have your roof inspected by a professional roofing contractor regularly so you will be able to catch and fix even the smallest roof issues.

Roof warranty means “no problem”

You have to understand that a roof warranty doesn’t include roof issues caused by everyday wear and tear. This is the reason why regular roof inspection is necessary. With regular inspections, you will be able to address roof problems before they worsen. Aside from that, most roofing warranties require regular roof inspections; warranties could possibly get void if you skip inspection.

You can clean your roof with a pressure washer

While the pressure washer is very effective at removing dirt and mold on most surfaces, the tool can do more harm if you use it on your roof. There are roof materials such as asphalt shingles and clay tiles that are not designed to withstand the amount of water pressure from the washer. If you want to clean your roof, you can opt for a mild cleaner and rinse it with water using a garden hose with a lower pressure nozzle.

You can repair your own roof

This belief is only true of a simple roof issue. However, if you are dealing with roof leakage and broken shingles, no matter how great you are in handling tools, it is best to leave roof issues to the roofing professionals.
